Tiny Wings [Review]

Tiny Wings is yet another great example of why gaming on how the iOS can be both fresh and awesome. It is a very simple game, and it is powered by an absolutely unique idea which is a major reason behind its addictive gameplay. There is no doubt about the game's success in the App Store. It is easy to learn, has colorful graphics and a cute bird with tiny wings who only dreams about flying; your job is to make its dream come true.

The game has great visuals - the environment and colors in the game world keep changing with every session, bringing a slightly different experience when you play it the next day.

The controls in Tiny Wings are very easy to understand and anyone can get hooked on to it in a couple of minutes. The gameplay is a quite similar to other side-scrollers on iOS with one touch controls. Tiny Wings takes place in a hilly environment with repeating upward and downward slope, where your objective is to dive and swoop on the downward slopes and launch the bird using the upward slopes to get some air.

Touching the screen activates the diving action. The trick is to hold your finger on the screen and time it with an upcoming downward slope so that the bird swiftly slides through it and then release it as soon as you hit the upward slope. Certain slopes have a few coins lined behind each other, these can be collected to get additional points while, there is also a blue orb on some which boosts your speed. The catch is that you have to do all this and go as far as possible before nightfall. Why? – Because everyone sleeps in the night and so does the bird!

While coins and blue orbs help you increase your points and go faster, there is another feature included in the gameplay which lets you do exactly the same but it needs some focus to get it right. It is called perfect sliding which activates a frenzy mode which makes you go faster, jump longer and when you touch the clouds your points are doubled.

The world is divided into various islands which change every day. As you reach the end of every island you will come across a huge slope, with a lot of coins lying around and you will eventually shoot up into the sky launching yourself on to the next island. Every island has its own pattern; it differs in length, color and the types of slopes.

There is only one scenario in the game, and yet is an addictive experience. It also includes an objective system and completing it improves your nest and your point multiplier by 2 after completing each set of objectives. Each set has three objectives which you can complete anytime in the game, there are quite a few objectives: some consist of collecting a certain amount of coins, while others would be collecting a certain amount of blue orbs from island number two, so on and so forth. One rather interesting one is where the game asks you to play through island one to island four by holding the device upside down and after launching yourself on to island five you flip your device back to normal!

We say, go ahead pay those mere $0.99 and get this game on your iOS device. It is a must have! It is fresh, unique and addictive. I heartily agree that this one is going to be my favourite for a very long time.
