Buying Guide: Graphics Cards
Choosing a graphics card as an upgrade or for a new system is seldom an easy choice, due to the sheer number of options. Hardware vendors are often ill informed, adding to the confusion. While this is not meant to be a comprehensive or exhaustive guide to graphic cards, it should be helpful in getting started and sorting out the budget.
AMD and NVIDIA are two companies that develop GPU technology, but the actual manufacturing of graphic cards is carried out by other vendors like ASUS, MSI, Palit, Zotac and several others. Once the chipset has been chosen, selecting a card vendor is a matter of budget and after sales service.
The top of the line NVIDIA graphics chip doing the rounds of the market is the GeForce GTX 590. Bagging one of these is going to cost you a little in excess of Rs. 40,000, with a choice between Zotac and ASUS.
