After being mired in rumors and speculations, Nikon’s flagship DSLR is expected to hit retail stores in February, this year. According to reports, the Nikon D4 is poised the replace D3S, which was released in November 2009, with improved auto-focus and overall improved performance.

The Nikon D4 will sport a 16.2 megapixel sensor with an effective maximum image resolution of about 4928 X 3288 pixels. The image capture censor will be connected to a 16-bit pipeline and image processing will be offloaded to an Expeed 3 imaging engine. The camera supports uncompressed video output through the HDMI port with storage options available in the form of CF and the upcoming XQD memory cards. It will use the Live View contrast-detection autofocus during video capture, in conjunction with microphone jacks with audio level controls for audio capture. The Nikon D4 is expected to go retail in February with a fat price-tag of $6,000 for just the body. Nikon also announced the AF-S 85mm f1.8G lens for release in March for $499.95.
