By Faiyaz Shaikh RSS Faiyaz Shaikh posted Jan 25th 2011 at 11:40AM | Filed under: PC & Laptop » Storage

Toshiba has unveiled industry’s first, 1.8” hard drives with low-insertion force SATA connectors. The MKxx39GSL series of hard drives are specifically designed for handheld devices and in that respect Toshiba claims that these new drives outperform the 2.5” variety in terms of vibration resistance, power consumption and quiet operation.

MKxx39GSL series has three models: 160GB (MK1639GSL), 200GB (MK2039GSL) and 220GB (MK2239GSL) capacity drives. Toshiba is sending these drives to handheld device manufacturers for appraisal, sometime in February this year.
