The Gateway ID59C is your Optimus laptop for under 50 grand
Launched in India today, the Gateway ID 59C features NVIDIA Optimus graphics switching technology, alternating between an NVIDIA GeForce GT 420M graphics chipset and integrated Intel HD graphics, depending on the task it is performing. Priced at an estimated end user price of 48,999, this Core i5 laptop has a 15.6-inch HD Ultrabright LED-backlit display, is 23 mm thin, and weighs 2.3 kgs.

We're not sure about how much RAM the ID59c is packing, the press release mentions One-touch social networking button, and Gateway's My Backup application as selling points, apart from "a sleek silver casing that is punctuated by a unique aqua-blue touchpad that glows when touched."

Also launched today is the LT 23 netbook, priced at 20,999 has a 10.1- inch screen, 2 GB memory and 320 GB hard disk drive space. The model also boasts of a multi-gesture touchpad which allows users to scroll playlists and photos easily. Acer claims that the ID 59C and LT 23 reduce power consumption by 33% due to the integration of LED – backlit wide screens, "assuring up to 8 hours of battery life with enhanced 6 cell battery", although that seems highly doubtful with the ID59c, even with Optimus.
