CES 2012: Lenovo ThinkPad Hybrid X1
Lenovo is coming to this year’s CES with an interesting device called the ThinkPad X1 Hybrid. As the name suggests, this machine is an iteration of the ThinkPad X1, but it’s the hybrid portion that calls for attention. The ThinkPad X1 portion of this device sports 13.3-inch Gorilla Glass display, Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, Windows 7, and up to 8GB of RAM. What makes this device a hybrid is the inclusion of a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8060 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of optional SSD storage.

The idea behind this laptop-tablet hybrid is the machine can switch to a low power consumption mode at a touch of a button, running what appears to be an Android/Linux based OS. While the machine is running in this mode, the Wintel hardware enters a standby mode, hence saving on power. The ThinkPad X1 Hybrid is due to go retail by the middle of this year with prices starting at $1, 599.
