World's fastest graphics card: ARES now in India

By Sriram Sharma RSS Sriram Sharma posted Jul 13th 2010 at 6:38PM | Filed under: Pc & Laptop » Components & Accessories

Asus India has managed to secure a limited edition unit of Ares, which holds the title for the world’s fastest graphics card by integrating a dual-Radeon HD 5870 GPU on one PCB. This configuration allegedly tops the a single Radeon HD 5970 in terms of performance, keep in mind that you could get two ATI Radeon HD5970s running in CrossFire mode for less. This strictly uber enthusiast card deploys two Radeon HD5870 cores for a total of 3200 stream processors, and a whopping 4GB of GDDR5 RAM clocked at 1.2GHz. Make sure you at least have a 800 watt PSU if you plan to run this thing, Ares consumes 191W of power when idle, push it to full throttle, and this card will consume 500 watts of power. As for performance, the framerates are very much top of the charts according to this review by Guru3D. Only thousand units of Ares are available worldwide, this limited edition unit is priced in India at Rs. 1,00,000. You could buy a full-fledged PC for that price, but you won't get a graphics card named after the Greek God of War, son of Zeus and Hera, for the price of a GTX 460 or a 5750.
