Rumour: Google's tablet to target $200 Kindle Fire
There have been rumors that Google is launching its own Android tablets, competing with Apple, in the next six months. Google Chairman Eric Schmidt recently told an Italian newspaper that the company plans to market a tablet of highest quality in the next six months.
A recent report from Digi Times now points out that Google’s tablet might actually be targeted at Amazon’s 7-inch Kindle Fire, instead of Apple’s iPad. Sources from Google’s upstream supply chain claim that the search giant will introduce its own, Google-branded tablet in March-April this year. The device will feature a 7-inch panel and run on Android 4.0. Google will sell the devices at less than US$199 to compete against Amazon’s Kindle Fire.

There have also been reports that Apple will launch two versions of its next-generation iPad at the iWorld trade show scheduled for January 26, 2012. The new models will join Apple’s existing iPad 2, and will focus on the mid-range and the high-end segments, featuring 9.7-inch screens, QXGA resolution (1,536×2,048 pixels), and Dual-LED light bars designed to strengthen the brightness of the panels.
Google’s launch of the new tablet will further add to the competition existing between major players like Apple, Amazon and Samsung, in the tablet market.
