Notion Ink announces Adam 2 with TI OMAP chip, Android ICS 4.0

While we didn't get to hear much from Notion Ink at this year's CES, the Bangalore-based design firm has announced plans for an Adam 2 tablet, which will run on a Texas Instruments OMAP 44xx processor and Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

"Adam II will release the world’s first Modular Based Software Architecture which will further expand the scope of application development and use nearly every single hardware feature in a “user customizable” application." writes Rohan Shravan on the Notion Ink Blog. Apparently the Adam 2 will be suited for applications as varied as 3D modelling and medical imaging, and is catered to professionals and students.

The first Adam, based on a Tegra 2 SoC and a PixelQi display received plenty of buzz from the media, but failed to match expectations and deliverables on many levels. It will be interesting to see if the decision to go with a TI OMAP chip makes the Adam 2 more affordable, and if Notion Ink is able to create buzz in a tablet landscape dominated by sub-$200 7-inch ICS tablets. At present, there are no render shots of the new device, and Notion Ink hasn't put a launch date or price tag on the tablet yet.
