Indian Govt. $35 Android tablet, Indian Company: $50
Android has been a rage in the past one and a half year catching the fancy of nearly all the major players in the industry. The Indian government saw the potential in this young mobile OS and said it can make a million Android tablets for $35 a piece. Now, an Indian company Allgo claims that it can make $50 tablets for an order of 10,000 units.
The tablet has a WVGA with an 800*400 pixel resistive 7-inch display, and it runs the 1.6 Donut version of Android; with WiFi and USB ports rounding up the hardware. The multimedia support on the tablet seemed above average from the video:
We did not notice Market support for the tablet in the video, the build seems to be better than the $35 Indian Governments tablet and most of all the display is better than the OlivePad's.
A thought: Indian pharmaceuticals companies already pioneer in generic mass-market friendly drugs; this makes me wonder: would generic Indian tablets -- of the electronic kind -- be next? Would such devices make for a better world or will they just end up being vaporware? We will be bringing you more details on the same soon. Stay tuned.
