CES 2012: World’s leanest 10-inch tablet
Toshiba has released a statement on its Japanese website that it will be heading to this year’s CES with the world’s lightest and slimmest 10.1-inch tablet. While the company has chosen to remain tightlipped about the name and the specs of the upcoming tablet, it could very well be the Regza or the upcoming Excite tablet. The Regza is already available in the Japanese market, while the Excite has been announced on the company’s Canadian website for release in January. Both these tablets have the specs to fit the bill of Toshiba’s claims.

The Toshiba Excite’s product page lists a tablet with a 10.1-inch, 1280x800 LCD display with LED backlighting. It will come preinstalled with Android version 3.2, driven by a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 1.2 GHz processor and 1GB of system memory. Other specs include up to 32GB of flash memory storage, HDMI, USB 2.0, and microSD ports and rated battery life of up to 7 hours. The tablet will also sport a 2MP front-facing camera and a 5MP camera at the back. The tablet is reportedly 7.7mm thick and weighs about 558g, both stats being slightly lower than the current market leader, the iPad. The Japanese model of this tablet is currently retailing at about $800.
