Rumours: New iPhone 4 by the end of the year, CDMA version too
There have been tons of rumours floating around for a while now that Apple will be coming out with a new version of the iPhone —the iPhone 4— later this year. But when a reputed media institution like the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) states the same by double-checking with their sources, there's a lot more credibility to the whole thing.
The WSJ is reporting that Apple will launch the iPhone 4 around June-September. The big news, though, is that AT&T's death-grip over the iPhone might finally be broken as a new CDMA version is expected to come out on rival carrier Verizon.
The prospects of the same are tantalizing for India consumers. While the government plods along at a snail's pace to get 3G on GSM networks, CDMA carrier Tata Indicom does offer EVDO speeds on handsets like the Samsung Corby Speed. High-speed Internet on the iPhone in India? It's a delicious thought.
Personally, we think the likelihood of a CDMA iPhone is low. Apple has repeatedly shown its preference for AT&T, especially with the iPad using the same carrier instead of going for a new one. Also, with 4G networks coming soon, it doesn't seem logical to launch an entirely new product line with a technology that is soon to be obsolete. Then again, stranger things have happened...
For all the iPhone 4 rumours so far and their probability, we'd like to direct you to a great article on Gizmodo a couple of months back. The site has also added a few new items in a post today – the highlight being multi-tasking and a screen resolution of 960x640 pixels— which is worth checking out.
