HTC Hero India 2.1 Update available on FOTA As promised by HTC India, it has released the Android 2.1 update for its consumers in India. For information click here and to upgrade call the hotline here. Follow the instructions given by the HTC personnel.

See you after the upgrade!

HTC stays true to its word and the Indian owners of the HTC Hero; including me will be getting the Android 2.1 by 30th June according the excellent customer support lady. Yes, I am more than impressed with HTC’s back-end support.

It is going to be a two part process the first being  Firmware over-the-air (FOTA) client update & YouTube player update, and then we get to munch on the Android 2.1 Eclair as promised by HTC before

HTC is giving out firmware updates as of now which apparently were started on 9th June; surprising that it went un-noticed. The company has directed all the queries to the respective nations and the Indian number is 1800-113-37. Call the toll-free number and register your number and they will send the update.

The first step is to change the date to 9th June 2010 but remember to be in WiFi Hot-spot where you can get a proper internet connection.

In theory it is a cake walk; go to Settings > Date and > Change it to 9th June 2010.

Restart your phone and it’s supposed to be done.

.

So, back up your data and hard-reset; to welcome Android 2.1 on the Indian HTC Hero! (This is when we get the Android 2.1 update and not immediately!) What the upgraded Kernel looks like System tutorial is replaced by System Software Update. The Firmware remains 1.5, the eclair is yet to come.

Introducing Android 2.1 to HTC Hero India,

What I love about this screen-shot is it says 2.1 update 1, so somewhere there is a hope for more to come in the months to come. HTC never disappointed yet and I hope it continues not to do so. When the phone is updated the first screen that you see is the following back-dated to 3rd October 1980; Now I really do not know why the date is 3rd October 1980 and why is it 01:25. I was born 8 years later than this date yet for some reason I did see this date. Has anyone else encountered such a thing?

then in 3-4 seconds the screen refreshed and my Hero's memory was back to present.

You do not need to reset your phone; the update goes down smoothly but more on that later.

After the update make sure you pinch the screen for... Blue-tooth has started working with the  update and the looks of the 2.1 is stunning to say the least... I will be posting a review of 2.1 on HTC Hero soon..! HTC with this screen might seem like a narcissist to many but I couldn't agree more...
