Reporting live from the Blackberry WES 2010 event, it's a huge crowd out here, close to 5-7000 people here.. The stage is set for a big announcement, two updates to the Pearl and Bold line were made yesterday, we've had a leak of the Blackberry OS 6.0 last week, let's see what BB serves up today.

Mike Lazardis spoke about Blackberry handsets, the 9700 Bold, Pearl 3G. Over 41 million people use Blackberry smartphones, and 5 out of ten smartphones in the US are from BB. Blackberry Messenger: Over 20 million BBM users. SuperApps: Integrated with calendar, email, mapping system, the application does the work for the end user. Deep social media integrated, seamless, personalised, contextualised experience. Bandwidth efficiency is in the Blackberry DNA, says Lazariris, comparing BB bandwidth usage against other platforms Mike Lazaridis takes the stage.

No surprises, Blackberry OS 6.0 announced: Fresh yet Familar, Easy to use yet powerful. First video demo. Redesigned core applications, multimedia applications, RSS feeds and social media manager, new Webkit browser. Looks like it's optimised for touch.  launching next calendar quarter, no word yet on which devices will be upgradeable to 6.0, but some devices will be able to. Here's a video!
UPDATE:  A trusted source tells BBleaks that  "older" devices to receive OS 6.0 include the Bold 9650 and Bold 9700, Pearl 9100 and 9105, Storm2 9520 and 9550

All current unannounced BlackBerry devices the Clamshell 9670, Storm Slider (9800?), and potentially a Storm3 will all launch with OS 6.0. The Atlas 8980 and Kepler 9300 will most likely still release with only OS 5.0.
