Nokia India launches four cheap mobile phones: 1280, 1616, 1800 and 2690
Nokia has launched four new handsets in the Indian market, primarily aimed at the audience that usually says, "I just want a phone that lets me make calls and send SMSes." The new phones all cost under Rs. 3,000, with three of them being priced under Rs. 2,000. The new models that Nokia has launched are Nokia 2690, Nokia 1800, Nokia 1616 and Nokia 1280. These phones will first be released in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, after which they will make their way to other states in the country.
Nokia 2690
The most expensive phone in these new releases, the Nokia 2690 is also the most feature-packed. It sports a 1.8-inch screen (256K colours, 128x160 pixels), 3.5-mm audio jack, Bluetooth with A2DP, multimedia player, Flash Lite 3.0, stereo FM radio, microSD slot (up to 8GB) and a VGA resolution camera. The battery life claims up to four and half hours of talk-time and 312 hours of standby time. The Nokia 2690 is available in four colours for Rs. 2749.
Nokia 1800
Featuring a sleek design with a full-chrome navigation pad, the Nokia 1800 is the best looking phone in the newly-launched handsets. The 1.8-inch screen (65K colours, 128x160 pixels) allows the bare functionality of sending messages and looking up the 500 phonebook entries you are allowed. FM radio makes an appearance, but there’s nothing else on hand here apart from a flashlight. The battery life, though, is quite impressive at over eight hours of continuous talk-time. The Nokia 1800 is available in four colours for an expected price of Rs. 1,800.
Nokia 1616
There's not much of a difference between the Nokia 1800 and the Nokia 1616 in terms of features, as the latter also comes with a 1.8-inch screen (65K colours, 128x160 pixels), 500 phonebook entries, FM radio and a battery life of over eight hours of talk-time. And although the 1616 doesn’t score that heavily in looks, it tries to make up for it by including a 3.5-mm audio jack for fitting headphones of your choice. And the flashlight on this one is something to be admired! The Nokia 1616 is available in four colours for an expected price of Rs. 1,600.
Nokia 1280
The cheapest phone in the new lot, the Nokia 1280 as bare-bones as they come. A 1.36-inch monochrome screen greets you, surrounded by plastic everywhere. You will get to store 500 phonebook entries, enjoy FM radio through your own headphones thanks to a 3.5-mm audio jack, and be able to talk for over eight hours on a single charge. Apart from that, there’s nothing much else here, but at least it’s priced accordingly. The Nokia 1280 is available in four colours for an expected price of Rs. 1,300.
