Barnes & Noble unveils new touchscreen eInk reader

Back in November last year, Barnes & Noble officially announced its very e-reader tablet called the Nook Color. It was a full touchscreen device with a color display and based on Google’s Android mobile operating system. Now, the company has announced its latest tablet which takes the device back to black and white and sports a touchscreen eInk display.

 

The new Nook reader goes up against Amazon’s latest Kindle. It is much lighter than the Kindle as the new Nook reader has no physical keyboard. It sports a 6-inch black and white touchscreen display, with 80 percent of less flashing during page turns and an improved battery life of two months. This new reader from Barnes & Noble also includes 2GB of built-in storage along with microSDHC slot and WiFi connectivity. It runs Android 2.1 and is powered by an 800MHz Texas Instruments OMAP3 processor. The reader is subtitled “The Simple Touch Reader.”

B&N will also allow users to discover a share books using the new “Nook Friends” which will integrate with Twitter, Facebook and email with using LendMe and ePub. The device will also include integration with myNook.com. The device will retail for $139 (Rs. 6275 approx) starting June 10th, sadly it won’t include any 3G connectivity options. Barnes and Noble have also announced that the price of the original Nook is dropped to $119 (Rs. 5372 approx) for WiFi and $169 (Rs. 7630 approx) for 3G.
