Metal Detector in an Android phone! [App Review]

How it works; you access the application after downloading it from the Android Market (search for Metal Detector) and take it near any metal to detect. Straight and simple yet so intriguing, sadly not many people share my excitement.

People with a certain competitive phone ask me, “What will you do with it? Take a job as a security guard?” A fair joke worth a few laughs but to me it is exciting that a phone can detect metal.

What further entices me is the level of metal that the Metal Detector shows: If you really want to have fun with it just take it around and see how it reacts. Many a time it starts ringing or vibrating even when aimed nowhere in clear sky which reflects that it indeed does use the compass.

Where you can use or is it productive? Well,  I don’t think you can really USE it. Unless you plan to tie your phone to a stick with head-phones and walk on the beach searching for a buried treasure or pennies! Productive? I wouldn’t count on it. The way my mom reacted was a bit of disappointment and proves a point she says, “You buy an expensive phone and then tell me it has a metal detector? Is that the reason you bought that phone?”

So basically it’s an innovative Android application.

Features of the application: you can calibrate it; play sound when it detects metal and other primary options. Nothing fancy, it just does what it says, “detect metal.”
