Total Commander for Android is a port of file managment program for Windows by the same name, developed by Ghisler Software based in Switzerland. While this program for Windows platform is quite matured, currently at version 7+, the Android port of is in a testing phase with release candidate 4 released in December, last year.
Total Commander is quite a powerful file management application with a wide variety of features including handling of archive (zip) files, copying, moving and renaming of directories and a built-in text editor. This functionality of Total Commander can be further extended using plug-ins like an FTP client, WebDAV to access web folders and even a plug-in to connect to a local area network. Other useful features of this file managing application for Android includes thumbnail for pictures, bookmarks and directory history. The application has support for about 16 languages and it even includes an online help in English, German, Russian, Ukrainian and Czech. Since the application is not ready for final release, it is not available on the Android Market and the even way to get it at this moment is through the developer’s website.
Total Commander for Android should be helpful for those who have vast and complex directory structure and/or those who find the operating systems built-in file management option to be inadequate. A full list of feature of Total Commander for Android (RC4) can be found after the break.
