App of the Week: Osmos HD

By Faiyaz Shaikh RSS Faiyaz Shaikh posted Jan 20th 2012 at 9:15PM | Filed under: Mobile » Apps

Osmos HD is a game that is loosely based on Darwinian principle of evolution with the objective of consuming smaller organism to grow and survive, while avoiding getting gobbled up by larger organisms. The game was first released on iOS and now it has been ported to Android for both smartphone and tablet form factors.

It’s one of those games with an effect that is more soothing and relaxing than outright exciting. This is achieved by use of serene graphics and ambient soundtrack of the electronic variety. The two games modes in Osmos are Odyssey and Arcade, where the first one is a guided tour through 27 levels and the latter is an arcade mode that lets the player select any level and difficulty setting. Since its debut, Osmos has received several accolades and it is widely considered a must-buy. You can get the game $3.00 on the Android Market or download the game demo for free.
