Sony reveals PlayStation-branded 3D HDTV and 3D glasses

Sony started their E3 2011 press conference with an honest apology for all the annoying hacker attacks the company has been through. Nevertheless, it is E3 2011 and Sony was not there just to apologize to all their fans, along with some exclusive titles for the PlayStation 3, the company also announced new PlayStation-branded 3D HDTV displays and PlayStation-branded 3D glasses. During the same announcement they also showed a new HDMI cable and Resistance 3.
Sony has been making some strong attempts to push 3D out in various markets and now they have announced that they are going to ‘break the mold’ on 3D TV pricing. So, Sony’s PlayStation-branded 3D TV starts at $499 (21,500 INR approx) for the 24-inch model and the prices obviously keep increasing with the increase in size. The PlayStation 3D display will be capable of stereoscopic multiplayer gaming, which uses active shutter 3D glasses. This means no longer split screen multiplayer, rather each player will see their own game on the whole screen, with each other’s display alternating in every frame.

The 3D TV will come with one pair of glasses, a 6-foot HDMI cable and a copy of Resistance 3, all this at the price of $499 (21,500 INR approx). For now, the company has only announced one screen size but we expect that the company would add some more variants in this PlayStation-branded 3D TV series. Sony also committed that they are committed to improve 3D gaming and hence the affordable pricing.
Well, we are quite sure that these may make their way into the India market, which is extremely price sensitive. Although we are aware that not many consumers in India are yet equipped with 3D televisions in their house, this may be a good option to start with, when it hits Indian channels.
