Facebook now has more registered Indian users than Orkut

 

comScore and Vizisense, the two Indian online audience measurement agencies, claim that as of July this year Facebook has more registered users than Orkut. Both these agencies put the number of registered Facebook users in the region on 22 million as opposed to Orkut, which is now trailing behind with 18.5 million users.Word from comScore is that Facebook has seen a threefold increase in its user-base in the past year; whereas ViziSense adds that Facebook is currently seeing a growth rate of 7-8 percent per month. 

The measurement also revealed that over 80 percent of Indian internet users visit social networking sites, growing by 45 percent last year and making India the seventh largest market for social networking.
