Game of the Month: Ra.One vs. Rage

By Andre Rodrigues RSS Andre Rodrigues posted Oct 4th 2011 at 7:21AM | Filed under: Gaming » PC

I just received the invite for the Ra.One game Launch event on the 5th of October. A gala event with the Badshah himself, Shah Rukh Khan making an appearance to the event. Talk about timing. It turns out iD software's RAGE also coming out on the same time as Ra.One: The Game. So which game will you be choosing to invest your gaming bucks on? In this creative experiment, we compare the two games, just because we can.

Rage

Ra.One

Storyline
Rage begins as you emerge from a Vault after a post-apocalyptic nuclear war, wait sorry wrong game, you emerge from a cryogenic pod called an arc after Earth has been decimated by a meteor, what's left is a Mad Max-styled theme park of horror. You have tons of fun trying to stay alive in the wasteland while laying waste to various ugly mutants. The Wikipedia entry is sparse on the storyline part but from what we know is that the movie is not directed by Karan Johar. The storyline “centres around a game designer whose creation becomes dangerously real!” Also, Shah Rukh Khan saves the world dressed in a blue techno suit, in a cross between Iron Man and Automan.
Gameplay
Rage is a hardcore First Person Shooter with driving sections and extreme gore as well a solid multiplayer component with intense co-op and races against online characters. Ra.One is a cel-shaded action game starring Shah Rukh Khan.
Graphics
You can also drive dirt buggies and employ various weaponry of death as you meander through some of the most beautiful landscapes courtesy of the Rage engine, sculpted with love by John Carmack and his team. Incidentally, Carmack is the father of FPSes with Doom and Quake, and with RAGE he's all set to change and revitalize the landscape of FPSes to come. Ra.One is made by Trine Gaming Studio and stars Shah Rukh Khan.
Sound
Appropriate post-apocalyptic grunts set to the symphony of hardcore gunplay. Might have the song Chamak Challo sung by Akon itself and the game will be voiced by Shah Rukh Khan.

Why does life have to throw such life changing and planet ending decisions down our alley. We will most definitely be going to the press launch for a hands-on with Ra One. Until then, do let us know. What's your choice. To RAGE or to Ra.One?
