It's About Time! StarCraft II : Wings of Liberty launches today

StarCraft II, the sequel to the hit real-time strategy game from Blizzard Entertainment is available starting today on digital download for PC and Mac users via battle.net. It's one of the most successful game franchises in the world and is already being billed as the PC game of the year. Fans of the franchise have waited many long years for an update, the original StarCraft, launched in 1998, is still played like a national sport in South Korea.

The original StarCraft has sold 11 million copies globally, and has received both critical and mainstream acclaim. Here in India, you won't be getting that boxed copy with all the fanboy goodies anytime soon. Friend tells me that WorldWide CD ROMs, distributor for Blizzard in India hasn't imported copies of this game. It's a damn shame because the the collector's edition has plenty of loot for fans of the franchise:

From Wikipedia: The collector's edition will come with an artbook, 2GB flash drive modeled after Jim Raynor's dog tag with the original StarCraft and Brood War expansion preloaded, behind-the-scenes DVD, soundtrack, comic book, and redeemable codes for downloadable content including a unique model for the in-game Thor unit and a World of Warcraft pet.

 

Wings of Liberty boasts a new 3D-graphics engine, plenty of cinematic build-ups and a compelling single player storyline. Like most RTS games, it has a fairly tolerant system requirements, this is a must buy considering the production quality and time and effort put into this game.. It's been in the making for over seven years, the spit and polish shows in these gameplay videos.. but first, the official cinematic trailer, in all it's CG glory..

Here's the official in-game video demo that immerses you in battle tactics between the Terrans, Protoss, and the Zerg..there is sadly no playable demo available yet.
