HTC Wildfire launched with Reliance mobile for Rs. 16,590

The Wildfire is a priced at mid range phone and rightly named so, it is a phone packed with Hero capabilities for an affordable price. HTC Wildfire is what HTC Hero was to the Android community a year back, a break-through. The Hero upgraded to Legend but both were high-end devices.
The HTC Wildfire seems like a decent upgrade and update to the HTC Tattoo, it has a larger 3.2-inch screen but sadly it’s the same screen resolution – half the pixels as the AMOLED screen fitted HTC Legend, (240×320 pixels vs 320×480), but apart from that, it’s a fairly competent looking phone with the same amount of RAM and ROM. It’s also running a slightly slower Qualcomm processor, but the two are nearly identical. You won’t be sacrificing much on core functionality as the Wildfire has a proximity sensor, optical trackpad, accelerometer, supports multi-touch, and of course, you also get Sense UI on top of Android 2.1.
HTC Corporation and Reliance Communications in an exclusive partnership launched the HTC Wildfire in India. The phone is equipped HTC Sense for 3.2” touch screen with HTC Sense, 5-mega pixel camera with auto focus LED flash, FM radio, and a media player with upto 32GB expandable memory. Since an exclusive partnership exists between HTC and Reliance Communications, Reliance GSM customers can avail up to 500 MB of free data access every month for a period of six months.
The processor speed on the Wildfire is 528 MHz (Qualcomm MSM7225-1) with a RAM of 512 MB and a ROM of 384 MB. The phone is pre-loaded with Android 2.1 éclair and hence has all the features from social networking to email sync. Nevertheless, if you are looking for a gaming device this is not your phone. The phone will render most 3D games available in the Indian Android Market but do not expect it to run games like Asphalt 5.
Priced at Rs. 16,590 the HTC Wildfire will ruffle some feathers in that price segment especially that of Samsung Wave that is trying to make a mark with BADA. This will be an interesting dogfight, Samsung Bada against Android 2.1 for productivity, graphics experience and the app market.
We’re hoping to have a hands-on and a review up sometime later this week to find out how big a compromise it is over a HVGA Android phone.
Reliance Mobile GSM customers upgrading to HTC Wildfire will also get FREE Data Usage up to 500 MB of free data access every month for a period of six months.
