Taking a leaf from telecom giant Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone also increased tariffs on their pre-paid plans in select regions while Bharti expanded its new tariffs to other circles, officials familiar with the development said Thursday. Idea has increased its tariff from 1 paisa per second to 1.2 paisa per second for calls made from Idea to other networks including both local and STD calls in the Delhi region under the per second billing scheme. The number of mobile phone subscribers in India rose to 840.28 million in May with Reliance Communications alone adding 2.5 million subscribers, official data showed Thursday. A man pulls a cycle-rickshaw with goods in front of a shop with boards of Bharti Airtel in KolkataRevenues of the Indian telecom equipment industry plunged 2.52 percent at Rs.117,039 crore during the 2010-11 fiscal ended March 31 against Rs.120,069 crore during the previous year, a survey released Wednesday by a telecom industry journal said.
