Buying Guide: Game Consoles [Updated]

While players like Sega and Atari have come and gone, the console hardware business is currently dominated by three companies — Sony Computer Entertainment, Nintendo and Microsoft. It can be argued that through their platforms, these companies are even dominating the gaming industry as a whole, supplanting the PC, which dominated much of the industry in North America following the great crash caused by shuttering of Atari’s console business. History lessons aside, this article is meant to be a buying guide for those who are looking to step into the world of gaming with a serious investment in a game console, but are not sure where to start.
