Crackdown 2: After Blackberry, Government of India going after Google and Skype

Lately, Government of India appears to have enabled God-mo de—first it was the expected yet shameful CWG scam, followed by a pat on the back in the form of a pay-hike and now it appears the government wants to fulfil its voyeuristic fantasies.

Lephone’s triple-SIM mobile phone available in India

In a ludicrous display of one-upmanship, Lephone has launched a phone that supports three SIM cards simultaneously. This relatively obscure cell-phone manufacturer has apparently deemed that an additional slot for a SIM card would be enough to set itself apart from the competition.

Gmail Priority Inbox: Mark your emails and get your priorities straight

Gmail Priority Inbox: Mark your emails and get your priorities straight

Just activated Priority Inbox to my main Gmail account and it already seems to have made a vast difference in sorting out my emails, I already use a few Gmail filters to filter out spam, offers, and newsletters, but this is a neater and organised way to present email on a browser. The new Inbox looks really well organized on a 22-inch screen, thanks to news sections: important, unread, starred, and everything else. The feature apparently gets better at predicting which emails are important and which ones aren’t (something like a Pagerank algorithm for your emails). For those who have hundreds and thousands of unread emails, this is a better way to sort things out, and worth turning on.

Nokia launches affordable dual SIM phones, C1 and C2 in India

Indian and Chinese dual-SIM phones finally get welcome competition from Finland; we’ve been anticipating these phones since June when it was first announced in Kenya, along with a bicycle charging kit. These C-series phones are made for the developing world and priced accordingly. The C1-00 is priced at Rs 1,999 in India, we don’t have the prices for the C2 yet, but we imagine it’s marginally more expensive (~Rs 2,500).

Wynncom’s Y45 is a relatively low-cost, dual-SIM phone with a full-QWERTY keypad that also supports Hindi. On the downside, this may make for one cluttered keypad as a single key has up to four functions mapped to it.
